Before relocating to New Zealand in September 2019, John spent his then 28-year professional working career in the not-for-profit and charitable sector with national organisations in his native country of Canada. He has held senior roles working collaboratively with a Board of Directors providing leadership to organisations in the areas of amateur sport, at risk youth, disease prevention and a sensory disability.

His career has been highlighted by successfully leading numerous new programme initiatives driven by the principles of improving the client experience and delivering improved measurable outcomes.  John believes passionately about establishing service delivery standards and the importance of and use of data to analyse the organisation’s key performance measures and outcomes. He has also successfully led significant large capital projects involving formalised partnerships with the private and public sector.  Throughout his career he has also initiated and created numerous partnership agreements and collaborative efforts with all levels of government and crown corporations.

John was born and raised in Edmonton and is a proud alumnus of the University of Alberta. His passions include participating in almost any sport and being an avid spectator of major sporting events throughout the year. He also has a keen interest in current events and their impact on the world.

Christine Gill is the Clinical Programme Director at Osteoporosis New Zealand (ONZ), having served as Executive Director from 2015 to 2024. Her leadership was pivotal in advancing ONZ’s strategic response to BoneCare 2020, particularly through a collaboration with the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) that led to a national quality improvement programme for fragility fracture care and prevention. This initiative has resulted in near-universal access to world-class Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) and real-time benchmarking through an innovative registry. Christine’s background includes research with the Connective Tissue Research Group at Auckland University and experience in the nutrition and pharmaceutical sectors. Outside work, she enjoys sports like mountain biking and water skiing.

I am a Consultant Geriatrician based in Northland and am National Clinical Lead for the Australia & New Zealand Fragility Fracture Registry (ANZFFR).

I moved to Aotearoa in 2019 after 30 years of mixing clinical practice with medical research in England. My research interests in bone health and fracture prevention were perfect preparation for working with ONZ on the ANZFFR. I am immensely grateful to the team at ONZ and especially my predecessor as Clinical Lead, Roger Harris, for handing me the reins of ANZFFR when it was already fully developed and ready to launch.

In my spare time I enjoy walking in Northland’s beauty, sharing good food with friends and listening to ridiculously loud music.

I moved to New Zealand in 2008 from UK and has always worked at Tauranga Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, in their Health and Ageing speciality in various roles, from 2015. I started their Fracture Liaison Service and continue to be the team leader for Bay of Plenty service. I became the Hip Fracture Registry coordinator in 2018 and the Fragility Fracture Registry coordinator in 2021. I thoroughly enjoy all three jobs, as I remain on the floor clinically with FLS and work with patients and the Registries roles I get to support all HFR teams and FLS in the country.

Stewart Fleming works in the critical role of webmaster for the Australian and New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry (ANZHFR) and Fragility Fracture Registry (ANZFFR). With a deep commitment to health data accessibility and technological innovation, he plays a key role in managing and optimising the registry’s online presence, helping clinicians and stakeholders access vital information to improve hip fracture care across both countries. In addition to his webmaster responsibilities, Stewart brings expertise in coaching and technology, bolstered by his certifications, including his Master Certified Coach (MCC) credential from the International Coaching Federation. This background allows him to support effective health data sharing while promoting a user-centered design for healthcare technology platforms.

Harminder is a registered nurse with a Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation and a Master of Business in Personal Injury, complemented by a qualification in Quality Improvement in Healthcare. She brings extensive expertise in injury prevention and the implementation of high-quality healthcare initiatives. With experience in both corporate and charitable organisations, Harminder is deeply committed to driving initiatives that create lasting, meaningful benefits for individuals and communities, lifting their lived experiences.

Kim trained as an Occupational Therapist at the University of Alberta, Canada and now resides in New Zealand where she works as an FLS Coordinator in addition to facilitating and coordinating the delivery of professional development to the members of Fracture Liaison Network on NZ (FLNNZ).  She has worked in Canada, England, and New Zealand in acute and rehabilitation wards, community, primary care, health promotion, and private practice settings, giving her a broad base of experience and networks.  Working closely with Osteoporosis New Zealand, the New Zealand Fragility Fracture Registry team, and Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), she has been involved in the national approach to best practice FLS across New Zealand since 2016, including establishing and developing the accredited FLS in her region.  She has been part of the Global FFN Special Interest Group Advisory Group for Secondary Fragility Fracture Prevention since 2021, currently as co-Lead, including international webinars, workshops, and projects.

Peter has over twenty years experience as a CEO and a Director/Trustee across the commercial, health, sporting and disability sectors.

He is drawn to values-driven organisations that are dedicated to ‘making a difference’ in people’s lives and are committed to being an innovator and key leader within their sector – which makes Osteoporosis New Zealand a natural fit.

Jan is a not-for-profit Chief Executive and has spent the last 15 years working in governance and leadership roles in the charity sector. Jan has a proven track record in managing diverse teams, growing revenue, building awareness and motivating others towards achieving common goals.

Prior to this Jan was a strategist in the communications industry, launching and sustaining some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s best-known brands. Jan is passionate about helping to drive Osteoporosis NZ’s mission forward to create meaningful impact and long-term change.

Jill leads the Cell and Molecular Bone/Joint Biology Research Group in the Department of Medicine, University of Auckland, New Zealand. Jill’s group investigates peptides and lipids that are anabolic to bone and tendon cells, and they hold international patents.  The group has established numerous in vitro and in vivo models in skeletal biology and developed a keen interest in skeletal regenerative medicine. Jill has been on the boards of the International Bone and Mineral Society and International Bone Morphometry Society and is a past president of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society.

Sue is the founder and Director of Leadership Plus a leadership development consultancy. She is an experienced executive coach and facilitator , known for her positive encouragement and ability to inspire growth in individuals and organizations. With a deep commitment to creating a better New Zealand for future generations, she leverages her expertise to help public and private sector teams achieve their vision and strategy. Sue’s qualifications include an MSc in Microbiology from Massey University and a Business Diploma from Auckland University, complemented by certifications in globally respected leadership tools. She also serves as Chair of the Doris Innes House Trust and is a Faculty member of Leadership Circle.

Lynne is an experienced chief executive and has held various senior management positions in the Wellington corporate arena across a variety of sectors.  She is a Chartered member of the Institute of Directors of NZ, and is an experienced director on commercial and charity boards. As a qualified Chartered Accountant, Lynne brings her knowledge of senior management and governance experience to the Osteoporosis NZ Board.

Dr David Kim is an Endocrinologist and General Physician who has been working as a consultant at Health New Zealand Waitemata since 2010.  He has special interest in osteoporosis and fracture prevention, and has been the clinical lead for the Fracture Liaison Service, Waitemata.  He also chairs the clinical lead group of Fracture Liaison Services in New Zealand.

Adrienne joined the Board originally to represent a consumer perspective, having seen the effects of osteoporosis in her immediate family. She has, as well, brought extensive governance and wider community experience to the Board, having served on a wide range of public sector and non-profit boards and charitable trusts. To this she has added her in-depth knowledge of government policymaking and legislation from her senior-level career in the public sector. Adrienne continues her passion for the consumer interest through her role on one of Te Whatu Ora/Health New Zealand’s four Regional Consumer Councils. She holds Masters degrees in Economics and Public Policy, and is immensely proud to have been made a Distinguished Fellow of the NZ Institute of Directors and of leading Māori tertiary education institute Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

Ian Reid MD is a Distinguished Professor in Medicine at the University of Auckland.  His research interests include calcium metabolism, vitamin D and osteoporosis. He is a past-president of the International Bone and Mineral Society (IBMS), and a recipient of research awards from the American Society of Bone & Mineral Research, the IBMS, the European Calcified Tissue Society, the Health Research Council of New Zealand, the Royal Society of New Zealand (Rutherford Medal) and of the New Zealand Prime Minister’s Science Prize.

Paul Mitchell is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame Australia, and an Honorary Departmental Senior Research Fellow in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, UK. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Asia Pacific Consortium on Osteoporosis.

Since 2005, Paul has developed programmes to improve fragility fracture care and prevention throughout the world. This includes initiatives at the global, regional and national level to implement the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) model of care. Paul has published and presented extensively on implementation of FLS and was a co-author of the 2012 International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) World Osteoporosis Day Report on the IOF Capture the Fracture® Program.

In 2016, he was awarded the IOF President’s Award in recognition of his contribution to the global activities of IOF. In 2024, he was the recipient of the global Fragility Fracture Network Lifetime Achievement Award.

Susannah is a consultant endocrinologist and Lead Clinician in the Department of Endocrinology, Te Toka Tumai Auckland, and an honorary senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Auckland. She completed doctoral and post-doctoral research in bone metabolism and bone diseases with the Bone and Joint Research Group at the University of Auckland.  She is a member of the NZ Endocrine Society and the Australasian Menopause Society. Her research interests and publications are in the areas of reproductive endocrinology and bone metabolism.
