If you have had a fragility fracture, your local Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) will conduct a timely assessment of your bone health, which may include a DXA scan.
Your healthcare provider may recommend a bone density scan (DEXA or DXA) if you have risk factors for osteoporosis .
Risk factors for osteoporosis include age, gender, family history of fractures, certain lifestyle choices, body mass index, and specific medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, medications for other conditions, such as breast cancer treatments, can affect bone density.
Regular monitoring, as advised by your healthcare provider, ensures early intervention and effective treatment of bone health. This proactive approach helps prevent further bone loss and reduces your risk of fractures.
